Leinster Bowling Club members were hosts to a visiting South African mixed bowling team last Tuesday 1st. September. The visit to Leinster was the final event of their 11 day tour of Southern Ireland. The group was met on arrival by Pat MacDonagh, who was the original contact in the planning of the tour last year. The Leinster ladies provided light refreshments for the visitors prior to the match at 2.00 pm.
The weather in the afternoon was ideal for bowling and there was great banter across all six rinks and some serious bowling. When the match finished at 5.00 pm the visitors were victorious. Both teams retired to the Bar and later to the Function Room for a meal. The Leinster President, Eugene Fannon addressed the gathering and exchanged gifts with Dan, representing the visitors. Dan thanked the caterers and the Leinster members for their hospitality and said how much they enjoyed their tour of Ireland.
The highlight of the evening was the excellent entertainment provided by the young girls from the Brenda Lunney School of Dancing. The Irish Dancing was much appreciated by the visitors.
On display in the Function Room was a photograph of a visiting South African mens team who visited Leinster in 1949. The guest on the day was the Taoiseach John A. Costello.
