Competitions Directors: Mary Kenny & Robbie Meany.

The finals of the Club Competitions were played over the weekend Saturday/Sunday 2/3 October. The weather was cold but dry on Saturday. On Sunday there was a rise in temperature and a heavy shower at 3.00 pm. delayed start of play for 5 minutes. The Competitions Directors, Mary and Robbie did an excellent job in scheduling matches over the two days. The standard of bowling was excellent throughout the competitions. It was gratifying to see the number of relatively new members who participated in this years competitions right up to the finals. The fact that the competitions took place at all, is a credit to the Bowling Committee who organised matches in strict compliance with Government Regulations and Sports Ireland recommendations relating to the Covid – 19 pandemic.

One of the high lights of this years event was the presentation by Mary Kenny of a framed I.B.A. International Cap to Paul Smyth. The award from the I.B.A. was in recognition of Paul’s distinguished career in bowling which encompasses 46 International Caps. In reply, Paul said he was honoured to accept the award but it was a long time coming, he said he was privileged to have played with bowling greats like Pat McGuirk and others who brought great honour to our club and country and got no recognition.

Flowers were presented to Mary Kenny, Competitions Director and to Maura Donovan, Ladies Captain who ran the Summer Mini League Competitions.
Robbie was not available to co-present prizes and Mary dispensed the awards in her usual efficient manner.
