On Sunday 2nd April we had our Annual Charity Day in Aid of Irish Guide or Assistance Dogs.
We had 2 sessions of bowling on the day, we had 32 playing members in the morning at 11am and 40 in the afternoon at 2.30pm. The weather was glorious and everyone who took part enjoyed the game. We charged everyone €5 for playing, raffle tickets were for sale also and everyone was very generous in purchasing same. The raffle prized were all donated by members and friend of the bowlers. Tea Coffee and light refreshments were served after each session and prizes were given out to the winners, runners up and a prize also for those who tried the hardest.
Before the start of the afternoon matches Niamh Wingate Regional Development Officer for the Irish Guide Dogs gave us an insight into what it takes to train a puppy and what it cost €5K on average to fully train one dog. Puppy raisers are needed to help train a future Guide or Assistance Dog you can foster a puppy for a year for details go to http://www.guidedogs.ie.
We had a busy day and overall we have raised €1670 for the charity and on behalf of the Winter Bowling Committee I would like to thank everyone who took part on the day those of you who purchased raffle tickets and the very generous donations we received from members and friends.
Wishing everyone an enjoyable summer season.
